Area of expertise: Internal Medicine

Philosophy of Care:
My philosophy of care is to provide my patients with whole person, compassionate care with cultural humility.

Clinical Interests:
Dr. Shaheen is a primary care internist who provides care for the medically underserved, which includes our undocumented immigrants and refugee population, as well as the broader recipients of Medi-Cal insurance. Her clinical interests also include teaching and mentoring medical students and resident physicians as a clinic and wards attending physician and Academic Coach. She is also one of the volunteer preceptors at Shifa Community Clinic and has enjoyed serving patients there as well as teaching and mentoring undergraduate students and medical students.

Research/Academic Interests:
Dr. Shaheen's scholarly interests include improving the care of our immigrant population, particularly refugees and asylees. It is with this in mind that she has been collaborating with Dr. Sharad Jain to create the UC Davis Human Rights Clinic in which they are partnering with local immigration lawyers to complete forensic examinations to bolster asylum cases. This endeavor includes collaboration with UC Davis medical students in the creation of this clinic and a future seminar series to educate the larger medical community about the legal, sociopolitical, and health concerns affecting immigrant populations.
