Dr. Chanelle Diaz is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Diaz completed a dual MD/MPH program at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She graduated from the Montefiore Primary Care and Social Internal Medicine program in 2019. During residency, she was selected as a National Physicians Alliance Copello Health Advocacy Fellow. She implemented a community-based immigration detention health track for residents to develop skills in supporting individuals with serious medical conditions in immigration jails by documenting medical neglect and advocating for their release in partnership with the New York Lawyers for Public Interest’s Medical Providers Network (NYLPI).

In addition to being on the NYPLI Medical Providers Network Steering Committee, she volunteers with HealthRight International and Physicians for Human Rights where she providers forensic medical examinations for survivors of torture and/or trauma. She co-leads the multidisciplinary Montefiore Immigration Working Group advocating for institutional changes to improve access and quality of care for immigrant patients.
